FACILITIES ENGINEER

POSITION SUMMARY

The Facilities Engineer provides engineering and technical support for BILA Solar’s facility infrastructure, utilities, manufacturing equipment, and related systems. This position is responsible for supporting reliable facility and equipment operation through technical troubleshooting, maintenance strategy, engineering improvements, project execution, and coordination of contractors and external service providers.

The Facilities Engineer works closely with Maintenance, Engineering, Production, EHS, Quality, and Company leadership to support equipment reliability, facility uptime, manufacturing expansion, and safe, efficient plant operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide engineering and technical support for facility infrastructure and manufacturing equipment, including installation, relocation, commissioning, decommissioning, upgrades, modifications, and plant-layout changes.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve facility and equipment issues involving HVAC, compressed dry air (CDA), electrical distribution, utilities, controls, equipment infrastructure, network drops, and other building or manufacturing support systems.

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance programs to maximize equipment reliability, availability, and operating efficiency.

  • Provide technical leadership and coaching to Maintenance Technicians on advanced troubleshooting, repair methods, equipment operation, maintenance strategies, technical documentation, and safe work practices.

  • Develop and maintain equipment and facility maintenance standards, procedures, work instructions, troubleshooting guides, specifications, drawings, manuals, asset information, and spare-parts recommendations.

  • Plan, coordinate, and communicate preventive maintenance, planned downtime, facility shutdowns, installations, construction activities, and engineering work to minimize disruption to manufacturing operations.

  • Coordinate and manage suppliers, equipment manufacturers, contractors, landlords, utilities, municipalities, inspectors, system integrators, and other external partners supporting facility operations, maintenance, audits, inspections, and projects.

  • Conduct routine facility inspections, coordinate minor repairs and corrective actions, and support procurement of facility-related supplies and materials.

  • Identify, evaluate, and implement facility and equipment upgrades, retrofits, guarding, error-proofing, energy-efficiency projects, reliability enhancements, and other continuous-improvement opportunities.

  • Ensure facility and equipment modifications comply with applicable safety, electrical, environmental, machine-guarding, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and Company requirements.

  • Partner with EHS to evaluate facility and equipment changes for potential safety, environmental, and regulatory risks.

  • Support root-cause analysis of equipment and facility failures and implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions.

  • Support capital and facility-improvement projects from concept through implementation, including scope development, technical evaluation, budgeting, scheduling, vendor selection, installation, commissioning, and project closeout.

  • Maintain accurate records of facility assets, equipment history, maintenance activities, repairs, projects, engineering changes, drawings, specifications, and other technical documentation.

  • Support development and management of critical spare-parts requirements and equipment lifecycle planning.

  • Monitor facility and equipment performance and identify opportunities to improve uptime, reliability, energy consumption, maintainability, and operating cost.

  • Provide engineering and technical support for facility or equipment emergencies, including planned shutdowns, weekends, holidays, and off-shift operations as required.

  • Perform other engineering, facilities, maintenance, and technical duties or projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Facilities Engineering, or a related engineering or technical field required.

  • Equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant engineering experience may be considered where appropriate.

Experience

  • Three or more years of experience in facilities engineering, manufacturing engineering, maintenance engineering, or a related technical engineering role.

  • Experience supporting facilities and equipment in a highly automated, high-volume manufacturing environment strongly preferred.

  • Experience with facility infrastructure, industrial utilities, equipment installation, commissioning, maintenance, and reliability improvement preferred.

  • Experience managing contractors, vendors, engineering projects, and facility-improvement projects preferred.

  • Experience supporting off-shift, weekend, or 24/7 manufacturing operations preferred.

  • Experience with root-cause analysis, preventive and predictive maintenance, and structured problem-solving methodologies preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong mechanical, electrical, controls, and industrial-systems troubleshooting skills.

  • Working knowledge of HVAC, compressed dry air (CDA), electrical distribution, facility utilities, industrial equipment, and general building infrastructure.

  • Working knowledge of electrical systems, including distribution equipment, panels, disconnects, breakers, motors, controls, and related facility infrastructure.

  • Ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, pneumatic diagrams, P&IDs, equipment manuals, control documentation, and technical specifications.

  • Understanding of preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance principles and equipment-reliability practices.

  • Strong project-management skills, including project planning, scheduling, budgeting, contractor coordination, implementation, and closeout.

  • Strong vendor and contractor management skills.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and structured problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to make sound engineering decisions with limited on-site supervision and appropriately escalate technical, safety, and operational risks.

  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively to technicians, operators, managers, contractors, and other stakeholders.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Experience utilizing a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

  • Ability to work flexible hours and provide technical support during emergencies, planned shutdowns, weekends, holidays, and off-shift operations as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed in both office and manufacturing/industrial facility environments, including production areas, mechanical rooms, electrical rooms, utility areas, rooftops, and other facility spaces.

  • May require working around operating machinery, electrical equipment, compressed air, HVAC equipment, industrial utilities, noise, heat, and other manufacturing-related conditions.

  • May require occasional climbing, lifting, walking, standing, bending, and accessing confined or restricted-access areas in accordance with applicable safety requirements.

  • Required PPE must be worn in designated areas.

  • Must be willing and able to support emergency calls, planned shutdowns, weekend work, and off-shift activities based on business and operational needs.
