EHS MANAGER

POSITION SUMMARY

The EHS Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, managing, and continuously improving BILA Solar’s Environmental, Health, and Safety programs. This position provides leadership and technical expertise to ensure a safe and compliant workplace while supporting a high-volume manufacturing operation.

The EHS Manager partners closely with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, Human Resources, and Company leadership to identify and mitigate workplace hazards, ensure regulatory compliance, investigate incidents, develop effective safety programs, and build a proactive safety culture across all shifts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve Company environmental, health, and safety policies, programs, procedures, and standards.

• Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety requirements, including OSHA, EPA, IDEM, and other applicable regulatory requirements.

• Serve as the primary internal resource for EHS compliance and provide guidance to leadership, supervisors, and employees regarding workplace safety and environmental requirements.

• Conduct routine facility and production-floor inspections, safety audits, risk assessments, and job hazard analyses to identify unsafe conditions, behaviors, and operational risks.

• Lead investigations of workplace injuries, illnesses, incidents, near misses, property damage, and significant safety events, including root-cause analysis and development of corrective and preventive actions.

• Track corrective actions resulting from incidents, audits, inspections, employee concerns, or regulatory findings and ensure timely completion and documented closure.

• Partner with Human Resources on workers’ compensation matters, including incident documentation, claim coordination, return-to-work considerations, and identification of injury trends.

• Develop, coordinate, and deliver required EHS training and maintain appropriate training records.

• Manage safety programs applicable to manufacturing operations, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), hazard communication, powered industrial trucks, machine guarding, electrical safety, emergency response, ergonomics, fall protection, and other applicable programs.

• Partner with Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations to evaluate new equipment, processes, facility modifications, production changes, and capital projects for potential EHS risks before implementation.

• Participate in equipment commissioning, modifications, relocations, and process changes to ensure appropriate guarding, energy-control procedures, safety devices, and regulatory requirements are addressed.

• Lead or support emergency preparedness activities, including emergency response plans, evacuation procedures, drills, severe-weather planning, fire prevention, and coordination with external emergency-response organizations as appropriate.

• Manage applicable environmental programs, permits, records, reporting, waste-management activities, chemical-management requirements, and other environmental compliance obligations.

• Coordinate regulatory inspections, audits, reporting, and responses involving OSHA, environmental agencies, fire authorities, insurers, or other applicable external organizations.

• Maintain required EHS documentation, records, logs, permits, inspection records, training records, incident files, OSHA records, and regulatory submissions.

• Develop and monitor EHS metrics and key performance indicators, including incident rates, near misses, corrective-action completion, training compliance, audit findings, and other leading and lagging indicators.

• Communicate EHS trends, risks, significant incidents, and recommended actions to Company leadership.

• Promote employee participation in workplace safety through safety committees, employee reporting, hazard identification, near-miss reporting, and continuous-improvement initiatives.

• Establish and enforce contractor and visitor safety expectations and coordinate EHS requirements for contractors performing work at the facility.

• Exercise stop-work authority when an activity presents an immediate or significant safety, health, or environmental risk.

• Support all production shifts and provide EHS guidance during emergencies, significant incidents, shutdowns, equipment installations, or other operational needs as required.

• Perform other environmental, health, safety, compliance, and related duties or projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Safety, Engineering, or a related field preferred.

• Equivalent combination of education, professional certifications, technical training, and relevant EHS experience may be considered.

Experience

• Five or more years of progressive Environmental, Health, and Safety experience, preferably within a manufacturing or industrial environment.

• Experience developing and administering EHS programs in a high-volume manufacturing environment strongly preferred.

• Demonstrated experience with OSHA compliance, incident investigation, root-cause analysis, safety training, hazard assessment, and corrective-action management.

• Experience supporting environmental compliance and regulatory requirements preferred.

• Experience supporting multi-shift or 24/7 manufacturing operations preferred.

• Previous EHS leadership or program-management experience strongly preferred.

Certifications

The following certifications or training are preferred:

• OSHA 30-Hour General Industry

• Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

• Associate Safety Professional (ASP)

• Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)

• First Aid/CPR/AED

• ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001 experience or auditor training

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and general-industry safety requirements.

• Knowledge of environmental regulations and manufacturing-related environmental compliance requirements.

• Strong knowledge of LOTO, machine guarding, electrical safety, PPE, hazard communication, powered industrial trucks, ergonomics, emergency preparedness, and other manufacturing safety programs.

• Strong incident-investigation and root-cause-analysis skills.

• Ability to identify workplace hazards, evaluate risk, and develop practical corrective and preventive actions.

• Ability to effectively coach and influence employees, supervisors, managers, and senior leadership regarding EHS expectations.

• Strong written and verbal communication, documentation, training, and presentation skills.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to urgent safety or operational situations.

• Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to identify trends and translate EHS data into actionable recommendations.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

• Ability to exercise independent judgment and appropriately escalate significant safety, environmental, regulatory, and operational risks.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Work is performed in both office and manufacturing environments.

• Regular presence on the production floor and throughout the facility is required.

• May require exposure to operating machinery, industrial equipment, electrical systems, chemicals, noise, heat, and other conditions associated with manufacturing operations.

• May require walking, standing, bending, climbing, and accessing equipment or facility areas to conduct inspections and investigations.

• Required PPE must be worn in designated areas.

• Must be willing and able to provide EHS support during emergencies, significant incidents, planned shutdowns, weekends, holidays, and off-shift operations based on business needs.
